Been there - done that!

You may have seen the YouTube video of our visit to the Laughton Cuckoo Fayre, where my son and I NEARLY got the Long Four up the Land Rover test hill

Since then we have been 'flying the flag' as follows: -

On June 16th we went on to the Newplace Classic Car Show at Framfield (the Champions there too) - a local show but with a couple of hundred very exotic entries.

On August 4th my 7 year old granddaughter and I took the Long Four to the Hooe Old Motor Club concours d'elegance (don't laugh), another local show but with many 'old cronies' from Bexhill 100 days).

Then on the 18th August, when I had hoped to be at the re-enactment at Croydon but wasn't confident about the gearbox, I took the Long Four in a lorry to the Cranleigh & District Lions Club Classic Car Show where there were over 1200 cars - but no other Jowetts. I particularly wanted to 'make' this show as I bought the car in Cranleigh in 1966 and I had (faint) hopes that someone there might know something about it. No Luck.

Finally on August 25th and 26th James and I went to the Hellingly Festival of Transport with both the Long Four and his recently completed 4.9 litre Ford Racing V8 (HOW MUCH??!!) LHD Capri. This was another local show but with a much bigger turnout and one that I used to enter regularly when I was running Javelins in the 70's and 80's. The Champions and Ian Roxburgh were also both present on the Sunday.

The next move is to strip and rebuild the gearbox with new layshaft bearings. Then any noise will be due to worn gears and I will have to live with that. Then I hope to get the 'skin' fitted professionally to keep the wet out, and get the inside retrimmed and reupholstered - funds permitting!

Funnily enough, I seem to get a lot more interest at these shows in my 'work in progress' than some others get in their very shiny, completed (DON'T TOUCH) entries.
