Having just registered for the forum, I would like to introduce myself, I am the only grandson of Stephen Carey Poole. I am 60 years old, married and living in Bath, working in Switzerland. We have three daughters, two granddaughters and one grandson.

I am very keen to find out as much as possible about my grandfather's role and time with Jowett and if there are any details, photo's I would love to see them if possible.

Hello James and welcome to the JowettTalk forum. Perhaps this Section of the forum is easier to use than the one you originally posted into.

I've had a look at a book in my collection called 'The Complete Jowett History' compiled by Paul Clark and Edmund Nankivell, and your grandfather's name is in the index with quite a number of page references against it.

The photos show part of the index and a snippet from page 48. Click on the photos and they'll enlarge.
I expect others will wish to contribute to the discussion, especially the Pre-war gang.

I am the Press Officer & Librarian of the Jowett Car Club and I am delighted that you have joined the Forum asking for details regarding your grandfather Stephen Poole.
I must confess I do not know too much about him other than what is published in The Complete Jowett History, but I am sure that the Pre-War lads will be able to tell you more.
Is it possible that you may have any pictures of him, or details of any Jowetts hat he may have owned?

May I add my welcome to your Jowett contacts.

Since 1966 I have owned one of the very few 1930 Jowetts still existing. For most of that time it has been in storage, but this year after about 8 years 'repairing' the car, I managed to get it back on the road.

Mine is a standard Long Four Fabric bodied saloon, a design feature which I believe was instigated by your grandfather. I have taken it to a number of local car rallies in East Sussex this summer and included references to your grandfather in the 'write ups' that I display at the shows. I am in contact with other owners of 1930 fabric saloons, one in New Zealand, a Blackbird model, one in Holland, a Grey Knight and there are a couple more in the UK as well as a coachbuilt - that is metal bodied - one in Cheshire. There are about 10 1930 models worldwide.

I am especially pleased to have this 'contact', albeit at arms length, with such an important person in the history of Jowetts and the 1930 models in particular as they represent an important watershed in design changes.
