Help using JowettTalk and JowettGallery
Posted: Thu Nov 07, 2013 11:44 am
A number of people have said they have issues with the Jowett facilities so I have spent a few days checking the help files and adding some more. But the job is not complete!
I need your feedback to improve the services!
People will have different understanding of computers and how to use them and of the software that runs on them. We are catering for people from 10 years old to 90 years old, from computer wizards to computer novices, from people with smartphones to multiscreen PCs. The system needs to cater for the casual user as well as those who use it every day and invest their time to develop their knowledge of the system.
We need to separate issues and be specific on what the problems really are.
There will be issues that are particular to specific people or those that affect a group or those that affect everybody. Thus it would really help if you firstly post your issue on JowettTalk explaining it as lucidly as possible. If you see such a post and can contribute, to either substantiate or dispel the issue, then please do so. If you do not, then it is difficult to solve the issues. Remember JowettTalk is here to help all those interested in Jowetts to communicate. JowettGallery is here to collect together and share information on Jowetts, it is the Jowett electronic archive.
There may well be 'bugs' in the system that were either there all the time or occur because something else has changed. There are many layers of software in the system, all of which are changing frequently. So making sure everything works is extremely difficult.
There may well be things that could be made easier, but the software you have on the Jowett Website is a compromise and a design by a group of people. Some like MACs and some like Windows, some like Android and some like iPhones, we can all argue for ages on what is better. If you have some constructive suggestions then please share them.
So let us try to organise making it better and dispelling the issues. Here are some categories to group issues. The links in each category should give help on the associated tasks. So please use them to sort out any issues you have before you post your issue, if it still remains.
1. Finding things on Jowett.org and Jowett.net. Layout and menus. Have you navigated around the sites to see what is there?
