Hi James
I am trying to find a handle for my 1929 Long two. The complication is it has a 1934 engine fitted at some time. Could you give me the dimensions of this one please? I'm wondering if I will have to modify one anyway, but I see this has the dandle clamped to the shaft, so I am at least reassured this could be straight forward.
Many thanks, Barry

The 1929 engine would have a hollow shaft sticking, at least? Have you got that bit? Or nothing at all.
Alternatively, I may have a handle only, vintage style if that suits.
This shaft would not suit a pre1930, that i do know.
I am not familiar with your engine either i am afraid!
Cheers.

Hi James,
Unfortunately Barry has got in before me, but I am also interested in purchasing your starting handle should he decide not to go ahead.
Cheers,
Andrew

Hi James
The engine has a boss and peg arrangement as shown. The measurement from the crankcase cover to front of the crank tube on the cross member is 10", the tube having an inside diameter of 1"
Given the engine seems to sit a lot lower than the original, I wonder if the cross member is off the 1934 car that donated the engine and box, as the tube does line up with the crank boss.
Thanks, Barry

I think you need a piece of tube 1 inch OD. I would get some CDS tube.
File a dog in the end and clamp a standard prewar handle on the end. I will look for my spare handle.
I agree your front member looks later.
All this assuming you are happy to keep the engine installed? I have a 1929 engine available if its of any use?

Thanks James, that's very helpful.
Other than the Engine and Gearbox (later four speed), The steering wheel has also been identified as 1930s and I suspect a complete car might have been broken up and used to upgrade the original, probably just after the war.
Thanks, Barry
