Moon's Motors

Post by Jack »

Just found an interesting advert, to me anyway :) Anyone know anything about the place? Now seems to be a row of shops near to Buckingham Palace, advert was from 1949.

No idea how to find out information on businesses from that period, but presumably being so close to the centre of London there must be photos somewhere? Any guesses how to go about a bit of research?

Presumably if it was a main dealer there must be cars on the road bought from this dealership, but how to find this out is a bit of a mystery too.

Found a banner with "Moon's Super Service Garage - Day and Night Repairs" - seems somehow appropriate given the midnight garage sessions over the years.

It seems that Moon's Garage was the start point for several of the 1930s London to Brighton runs.

Jack:-

Was the RAC the organising body then? If some other then one of them might have some info on the garage.

Also worth a try are the phone books of the period (available on line now)

Happy Hunting!
