Road Tax

Post by paul wilks »

I have just received my Road Tax reminder.
Towards the left hand side of the form under the replica number plate are details of
Make; Tax Class; Engine capacity/CO2

PLUS this:

"THIS VEHICLE REQUIRES AN APPROPRIATE MOT TEST CERTIFICATE" :?

I have completed a form V112 "Declaration of exemption from MOT" but given the DVLA statement as to the vehicle requiring an MOT I wondered if other members have noticed the above requirement on their Road Tax reminders and whether they had experienced any problems in re-"taxing" their vehicles. I suspect trying to tax on line will be more problematic with this requirement on the reminder but suspect I might face problems in my local Post Office as well!

This is compounded of course by the closure of local DVLA offices. I personally found our Chester Office very helpful.

Have other members any similar experience and noticed the above statement on their reminder?
("THIS VEHICLE REQUIRES AN APPROPRIATE MOT TEST CERTIFICATE")

Have they still managed to "tax" their cars on line or at the local PO?

Thanks

Paul

Hello Paul,

I have just recently renewed the Tax on my Jowett, I was going to go over the post office, and do it but decided to try it on-line, As for doing so it was pretty smooth sailing much to my surprised, just ran through their system, and at the end result was a tax disc five days later. As for the exemption form it wasn't queried at all, though last years renewal at the post office I did have to sign the small exemption form but this year on-line, Nothing was quibbled.

Success! I used our local Post Office (supporting local businesses and all that!) BUT it wasn't that straight forward.

The post office clerk queried the "It doesn't need an MOT" line despite my producing a Form V112 and pointing out the bit on the right hand side saying an MOT wasn't required for vehicles pre 1960.
In turn she pointed out that the entry on the left hand said "THIS VEHICLE REQUIRES AN APPROPRIATE MOT TEST CERTIFICATE".
She seemed unimpressed and said after studying her DVLA screen that it still showed that an MOT was required.
Fortunately I took in my V5C and she asked to inspect it and the date of registration (31/1/52).
She then proceeded to input info and I confess the longer it went on with her hitting a variety of keys the more I feared that she would next say "Computer says no."

And then she said, "Right, done" and handed me the receipt for Nil payment of road tax!
Success :D

Some people have had problems in the way you describe. Not all pre-1960 vehicles have been identified in the database. This can happen when making application for non-mot tax for the first time. It was giving severe problems when using the on line system. The DVLA recommended action in the event of on-line problems was to "prove" your way through it at a post office as you have just done. All being well it should be OK next time around.

Do it on line. Much easier, at least for me. :D
