jowett.org is currently off line as it is being upgraded and moved to a new server. Expect back on line this evening sometime, I hope! :D

Jowett.org has moved successfully, but not after a hiccup. Please, let me know if you find any issues.
Hopefully the new platform will be better. Already I notice that the 'requests' system has less of a problem with spam filtering, so please let me know if contacts with club officers have issues.

Hopefully you will have noticed that jowett.org is now working , and I think it is a bit better. One good thing is that 'Requests' seem to be getting to our voluntary officers more reliably. Previously spam filters were capturing some of them , but the new server supports authentication which many mail systems now require. So after a few days programming changes and testing, it is now functioning.

Clearly the hard work my computer had done was too much and it decided to die. I completely disassembled it and checked the power supply with a jumper across a couple of pins to bring it to life. All voltages seemed OK but reconnecting it still the motherboard would not fire up. I had taken all components down the garage and blown all the accumulated dust out. This really should be done each year to prevent overheating. I thought there was a dry joint on the Mobo so applied some solder but it was not that.

I spent a day on the laptop trying to find a replacement motherboard which is 6 years old and also deciding whether to buy components for the latest generation. That would work out at £700 and not give me much better performance. However, having slept on it I thought I would have one last go and connected up the cables from the previous generation computer's power suppply to the motherboard resting on a newspaper on top of the chassis. Voila! It went through its power on tests flawlessly. So a quick look at Maplins website to find an equivalent 750w power supply. I collected it (£50) and fitted it. All Ok except I was short a couple of power plugs for the drives (I have six in the beast!).

So up and running again so back to finish off the DRO on the lathe tomorrow.

Currently watching the fantastic 2000 Jupitour to Le Mans that Trevor put on DVD for me. Many, many happy memories of 40 Jups and 100 JOAC members.
