emails via jowett.org

If you have sent any emails via some jowett.org addresses (such as keith.clements'at'jowett.org) or via the jowett.org requests system since Feb 17th 2015 they may not have reached the intended recipient. This is because the spam filter system I set up was subjected to a new quota system by the new service provider. I have spent an hour this morning discussing  with them and it should now be fixed.

Thanks to Mike Allfrey who sent me the error message he received (via a different route) which allowed me to isolate the problem.

Ironically the last message the mailbox received was one welcoming me to the new service! What is more annoying is that I actually pay extra for this 'better' email service.

I spent most of the day (with an interlude to refurbish my stud drum puller for the Resto show) fixing the mail system on Jowett.org. The previous system quite happily ran on Linux but the new system uses Microsoft Exchange. It was also complicated by having about 10 different types of mailboxes with different quotas and facilities which you have to purchase. Thus 10 years of mails in some of them stopped them working, so I had to clean them out. The Outlook or Webmail client did not work well on my Chrome browser and after many support calls , I found the limitations myself. I was trying to use filtering to reduce my work load. 10000 mails later I had archived all the non-spam mails into years. In 5 years the system received 850 (non-spam) mails, so it is an important communication mechanism between the club and the Internet world.

I convinced the support guy to upgrade me for free (as I was already paying extra for the virus service), but then the migration sent many thousand emails to my gmail account, so that needed to be cleaned out!

Each club officer has a mailbox on the system, but only a couple are used at the moment as the request system performs a similar function.

It is difficult to control spam on 19 of them, but I have a cunning plan (said Baldrick)! The jowett.org officer mailboxes will forward to a gmail account and there be spam filtered and redistributed to the relevant officers, if they so desire. So in the coming weeks I will test that and see who wants the facility at the May exec.

Re: Resto show, don't forget split pins for the hub nuts and Thakeray washers for the wheel cylinders (as you know they are usually rusted/useless).

I recall many years ago someone posted about bleed valves for brake cylinders with the comment "No more bleeding problems".

This was later amendd to "No more bleedin' problems?".

I wonder why?

Best wishes to all for the 'show'. I will be watching with interest/envy.

Chris brought Rhowina (the shell we worked on at the NEC ) back today, but we had to fix the wheels on the buggy we used to move it around as they had collapsed. Also the door on the garage decided to fail so that is a job for sometime later as I have a few other things to sort out namely-.

Keith Wear phoned and I found out my forwarding system from webmaster@jowett.org was not working. Hopefully that is now fixed and I get spam filtered emails via a gmail account I have set up for the purpose. The beauty of this is that people can send attachments and do not have to use the requests form, which is a little easier for them than using the requests form. I received my first attachments via this method a couple of days ago from Wim Waltman in California. Our Film Librarian also received them. TOPIC Great pictures here in the Gallery.
This was the message that preceded them.
I want to e-mail 5 scanned copies of the Jowett Javelin my father owned taken during the 1951 Ralley Monte Carlo. Can you give me an e-mail address
So any club officer from any Jowett club can use this method, which shields your personal email from the world but allows you to communicate as a club official and will filter out most of the spam you might otherwise get.

Examples could be:
spares@jowett.org
filmlibrarian@jowett.org
secretary@jowett.org

Another good facility is that the system can send to more than one person so that officers can have deputies who can handle such mail.

So please contact webmaster@jowett.org if you would like me to set this up for you.
All I need is your normal email address or one you have set up for handling club mails.

I said above that other clubs can use a similar facility that can be set up on jowett.net so we can have

JCCAustraliaSecretary@jowett.net
JCCAmericaSpares@jowett.net

and these would forward to the relevant officer to handle. It is a bit of work for me but I am happy to do it to get better communication with the Internet world.
