Brake Diagram

Post by ajg1722 »

Some years ago there was floating around a diagram of the Bradford brake system, marked up with the lengths of the rods.
If anyone has a copy, could the please send it to me, or better still, post it in the Gallery.
Cheers,
Andrew

Don't worry, I've found it. It's in "Jowetteer" April 1995, along with an excellent article on setting up Girling brakes by one John Thomas. Compulsory reading for any Bradford owner.

Hi Andrew,

Any chance of uploading the brake diagram to the Gallery with a scan of the article by John Thomas for those Bradford owners down here (and worldwide) who were not members of the JCCA back in 1995?

I've just uploaded the article to the gallery - it's in my personal folder (Andrew Gilroy).

It would be very nice if the Gallery Administrator could move it into the Technical Library > Bradford, but I can't seem to find any instructions how to request this.

Also on the layout diagram, the length of the rod from the pedal actuating shaft to the front axle compensator is missing. This one is critical for me, can anyone please measure it and post it up?

Cheers,
Andrew

Andrew,

Thank you hugely for posting this to the forum and gallery. This is exactly what I need in order to set up the brakes on mine in the coming weeks.

Now to work out which bits I've got or not got, if I find a spare rod that you need I will shout - have you tried Paul B/JCS on this? Seems like something they are almost certain to have in their used spares. Not sure if I will get to the garage this weekend, but will measure mine if I do.

Jack.

Since this is so useful, I have scanned in and separated, cropped and rotated into separate pages. This took 10 minutes. I used Gallery Remote (now usefully available in my taskbar) to upload all the scans into a TOPIC Brakes album in the Bradford section of the Gallery. 30 seconds. Then OCR ed the text using Microsoft One Note and copied the text as a comment to the scan in the Gallery. 5 minutes. This should be checked and corrected, I suppose, before being part of the text searchable part of the Gallery, but I have to prepare two cars for the Rally.

Measured the "missing rod" on 2 off CB models - 25.5" no reason to think other models would be different.

Thanks Paul for the info. I found today in my heap of bits one of the "missing rods" (off a CC), and it measures 26.25". Can anyone else confirm this please?
I too do not think there were any changes at all to the Girling system from it's introduction right through to the end of production.

I would not argue with 26.25" as I was estimating how much rod is screwed into the clevises. I must have a rod off a vehicle if there is any dispute, but cutting it down is a lot easier than cutting it up........ if you get my drift!
