I found in the latest issue of the Jowetteer the piece written by Geoff McAuley on his petrol tank experiences. I don't have Geoff's E-mail address, so maybe you forward this on to him.
What interested me was his reference to the Dellorto carburettors. I had exactly the same thoughts when my Jupiter was running a pair of Solex carburettors ant the sticky petrol residue appeared. I have always considered the Zeniths to be sort of crude but perform a fine balancing act.
I have attached the latest issue of Your ABCCC News, the magazine put out by our local All British Classics Car Club Vic Inc., of which I am again the Editor. Inside is a bulletin from BP Australia, updated in 2010 and, I am fairly certain further updated over the years. I was given permission to publish the first version of the bulletin by BP, during my first stint in the editor's chair, provided I acknowledged the source.
The most pertinent point for us is the reduction in storage time for their petrol. BP were sort of angling the bulletin towards 'equipment' – i.e. lawn mowers, generators and so on – but it clearly relates to vented petrol tanks.
There is quite a lot of comment on the Internet about stale petrol (gas) and it all makes me wish for a goodly dose of lead!
I have promised my Jupiter an aluminium petrol tank sometime soon. Here in Melbourne there is a small company called Aussie Desert Coolers, mostly hot-rod stuff, but Norm the boss will turn to anything interesting for kicks. There are also a number of firms that make aluminium long range tanks for trucks (lorries). It is a good project that Geoff is calling for and I think we are all getting too old for fuel blockage concerns these days, I am, anyway.
Wonderful to read about the Rover 75 towing the Javelin to the NEC.
I hope the big North American freeze is not heading your way – we are heading for 39 degrees C today.
Kind regards,
Mike A.
