Engine rebuilder

Just a question. Who would you recommend to overhaul the engine from top to bottom. Can get it done this side of the water but I would like someone with particular knowledge of the engine and upgrades that can be completed .

Hi Paul,
I suggest you contact JCS and look on JowettTalk, services section, and post on there asking for advice. Since I have never used an engine rebuilder I cannot advise. I know that several club members have had their engines rebuilt by several rebuilders but do not know if these rebuilders are all still working on Jowett engines.
You will need to be clear how much you are prepared to spend and also give some indication on the condition of the major components. If you do not know their condition then I would advise paying for an assessment. A full rebuild using whatever new components are available can run into many thousands of pounds whereas A REBUILD REFURBISHING SERVICABLE COMPONENTS ON A BASICALLY SOUND ENGINE WOULD BE A LOT LESS.
You can also save money by managing and doing some of the work on the rebuild yourself. There are excellent manuals edited by experienced rebuilders in the Jowett Library and a few long topics covering aspects of the rebuild that you can refer to. Also club members and JCS can offer assistance and refurbishment of various parts. You will find it very rewarding to do it yourself as you learn and gain confidence in using your Jowett.
Also be prepared for some surprises as 70 year old components may have issues that not even a thorough assessment uncovers. Also issues may occur once the engine has been rebuilt and run. I am just trying to set expectations and instill a sense of patience and understanding that I have gained from over 50 years of rebuilding Jowett engines.
