Thank you for allowing me onto your forum. I am clearing my late fathers extensive collection of Motor and Steam artefacts and spares and have come across an early horizontally opposed Jowett engine. As far as I can make out currently it appears to be as above early to mid 1920s car engine but it may of course be for a van. It has been in his garage for perhaps 40 years and will need completely overhauling. I was going to consign it to a suitable auction site but thought I would enquire of interest here as well.

Yes you have ! We have exchanged various communications about it David. You wanted me to check it’s free and said it was worth much less if it isn’t

Hello Andrew.
Flat-twin vintage and pre-war Jowett engines usually have the engine number stamped on the top of the engine casing, as can be seen in the photo.
This is a 1928 engine I parted with some time ago.
A photo or two of your engine might be of use here, so people can see if it's complete or has parts missing.
Perhaps you can also mention if the engine turns freely.
I have sent you a private message through JowettTalk.
Tony.

Hello again Andrew.
The number on the casing suggests that the engine is from 1929.
The first number is the year,
My pre-wars have engine numbers beginning with 3 - the 1933 Flying Fox, and 4 - the 1934 7hp short saloon.
Tony.

Rubbing my hands like Arkwright at the thoughts of all that rusty gold in the garage! That price is one hell of a stretch!
