NORTHERN SECTION Our Section AGM will be held at Low Laithes Golf Club, Ossett,
on Sunday 29th October. We’ll start with the usual buffet lunch followed by the formal
meeting.
After several years as Chairman, Michael Smith has decided to retire and so we’re looking
for someone to take on this role. Could this be you? If you’d like to put yourself forward
for election as Chairman or join our committee in any other capacity, then please let
me know before the meeting.
We’ve been flying the Jowett flags at several local shows this summer - Newby Hall,
NY500 and Hebden Bridge and, despite doubtful weather forecasts, these have all been
well supported by members and cars. Many thanks to those who were able to attend -
our Jowetts caused a lot of interest and helped raise the profile of the Club in this centenary
year. Congratulations to Robert & Joan Dyson on being awarded 2nd prize with their
Jupiter in the Sports Car class at the recent Locke Park, Barnsley classic car show. Well
done!
The Jowett Reunion meeting at the Bradford Industrial Museum saw an amazing number
of Jowetts on display and the numbers of members and public attending far exceeded
those of recent years. We thank Colin Dennison and family for their hard work in
preparing for the event and for the organisation on the day and thanks also to the Northern
Section ladies for their sterling service in the café serving the food and drinks. The
Reunion itself was followed by a Dinner at the Bankfield Hotel, Bingley attended by 64
members and friends. Thanks to Barbara Atack, Jacquie Holding and Colin Dennison for
liaising with the hotel and taking the bookings. After the meal Keith Wear gave an entertaining
talk about the origin and early years of the Reunion and of his original successful
campaign to ensure that an acknowledgement of Jowett vehicle production at the Idle
site was incorporated into the redevelopment by Morrisons. Sunday saw many Jowetts
taking part in a scenic run around the Yorkshire Dales, this being skilfully organised by
Michael Koch-Osborne. Once again the weather defied the forecasters and remained
mostly dry. Thank you to all members from other Sections who joined us for our flagship
centenary event weekend – it made all the hard work worthwhile. - Robert Meekings
